How One Cartoonist's Mind Works
by
T. McCracken
Look At The World Through a Rear View Mirror

As mentioned before, using opposites, or antonyms is one of my favorite methods of coming up with ideas, especially when concepts are taken to an extreme and absurd conclusion.

For example, I live in a small coastal Oregon town and the bane of our summer existence are humongous motor homes going 25 MPH. I was once stuck behind one behemoth for twenty miles that had a "Wide Load Sign" and I think it was big enough to have house the entire population of Kansas.

As an aside, the reason I used Kansas instead of Oregon is that for some reason a K sound is considered to be funny.

Anyway, instead of cursing . . . well, in addition to cursing . . . I used the time to come up with a few cartoon ideas.

Truck Cartoon 6025
What's the opposite of a wide load?

Elephant Cartoon 7423

What's an extreme and absurd wide load?

Road Construction Cartoon 6108
When I got to a passing lane the driver of the behemoth suddenly seemed to have found the accelerator and nearly wiped out a flagger holding a "Stop" sign.
